blockbusting - the illegal and discriminatory practice of generating residential real estate sales for personal profit through any representation that members of a protected group (such as those identified by race, gender, religion, physical or mental disability, familial status, or ancestry) may be moving into the area. Blockbusters generally imply that property values will fall if this occurs. Severe federal and state criminal and civil penalties apply for blockbusting.
