easement - a limited property interest held by one person in the real property owned by another. Unlike leasehold, an easement is not a possessory interest and generally consists of the right to pass over or use another's property for purposes of enjoying one's own property. See also dominant tenement, easement appurtenant, easement by necessity, easement by prescription, easement in gross, negative easement, and servient tenement.
