easement in gross - an easement typically acquired by grant allowing the grantee personally to use or travel over the property of another. It does not involve a second property, is not transferable, and usually ends with the death of the grantee or the transfer of the property. One example is a right that property owner Abel grants to friend Baker to hike over Abel's land during camping trips to an adjacent wilderness area.
