Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA) - (also called Ginnie Mae) a federal association established in 1968 as a corporation owned and managed by HUD. GNMA issues securities backed by a pool of federally insured mortgages. GNMA issues guaranty certificates backed by the full faith and credit of the U.S. government to enhance the marketability of the securitized loans. See also guaranteed mortgage certificate.
