Government National Mortgage Association (GNMA) options - a method whereby investors buy and sell GNMA securities through the use of "puts" and "calls," as with other options. A "put" option allows the investor to sell a package of GNMA securities at a specified price within a specified period, while a "call" option entitles the investor to buy a package of GNMA securities at a specified price within a specified period. Sudden interest rate moves may make the options very valuable or worthless.
