general partner - a co-owner of a business venture legally organized as a partnership who is authorized to enter into contracts binding the partnership. The general partner may be an individual ("natural person") or a corporation. There are two types of partnerships with general partners, general partnerships and limited partnerships. In both, general partners are personally liable for the acts and obligations of the business. See also general partnership and limited partnership.
