grace period - a mutually agreed upon or statutory period of time after a contract obligation is due to be performed within which performance may still be tendered without being considered a default. An example is a mortgage loan with a monthly payment date of the first of each month and a 10-day grace period. The loan would not be considered in default until the tenth of the month.
