hold harmless clause - a contract provision in which one party agrees to indemnify and defend another party for certain risks associated with the transaction. A typical example is a hold harmless clause in a commercial lease, in which the lessee agrees to pay any damages incurred by third parties in connection with the lessee's use of the leased premises.
