materialman's lien - (also called "mechanic's lien")a statutory device designed to ensure that providers of materials and supplies used in the construction of repair of a structure receive priority in payment. Subject to rules that vary by jurisdiction, such a supplier may file a lien against the real property involved until payment is made.
