noncompetition clause - a provision in a contract, lease or deed wherein a promise is made to refrain from engaging in or permitting some commercial enterprise or act on a particular premises, within a radius of a certain premises, or within a proscribed time period within a geographic boundary. For example, in a neighborhood shopping center, the supermarket operator may condition its occupancy on the shopping center owner not building another shopping center within a 10-mile radius of the subject that would include a competing supermarket.
