note - a document executed by the debtor that sets forth the amount, term, and interest rate of the debt, and also contains the operative words and phrases that constitute a promise to repay. When used in conjunction with real property, a note is often secured by a trust deed, which allows the lender to obtain lawful possession of the real property in the event of a default. See also promissory note and trust deed.
