notice - (1) information passed from one person to the world at large given in a manner prescribed by law or contract to advise the public of an event or condition that the public should take note of and respond to as appropriate. Such a notice may be published in a newspaper of general circulation with the general intent of putting all on notice of such matters. Examples include a petition for a name change, the intent to sell assets of a business, the intent to sell alcoholic beverages, or a notice of trustee's sale under a deed of trust. (2) information passed from one person to another as required by law or prudence. Examples include a lessor's notice to a lessee to pay rent within a specified time or vacate the premises, or a lessee's notice to lessor of its intent to exercise an option to extend its lease.
