partition - (1) an interior wall; (2) any vertical structure separating interior spaces (a bookcase in the middle of a room might be a partition);(3) a court order separating multiple ownership interests, usually to allow the individual owners to sell or otherwise convey their interests. For example, a married couple owning property as joint tenants may obtain a partition order as part of a divorce settlement.
