R-value - a method of comparing the efficiency of various types of insulation, or the thermal efficiency of windows, doors, and roofing materials. The product is assigned a number based on its resistance to the transmission of heat and its manufactured thickness. The higher the number, the greater the insulating ability of the product. R-values of 15 to 30 are common for insulation in residential buildings.
