tenancy for years - the estate created by a lease or demise which grants possession of real property for a specific, fixed period of time. It need not be a year or a multiple of years. For example, a lease of a vacation home for "the month of September 2001" is a tenancy for years. See also demise, leasehold estate, and tenancy.
