threshold - (1) a covering strip attached to the floor in a doorway to conceal the joining of two dissimilar materials, and, in the case of exterior doors, to prevent water intrusion; typically made of wood, metal, stone, or concrete; (2) a breakpoint on which something else depends. In real estate, for example, some lenders require that a certain percentage of the units in a condominium complex be owner-occupied before they will consider lending on a unit in the project. That minimum percentage is a threshold.
