valuable consideration - a legal term meaning a class of consideration (inducement to a contract) that has value sufficient to support terms of the contract. Valuable consideration entitles the promisee to enforce a claim against an unwilling promisor. The consideration need not have actual value to the promisee. It is sufficient that it has perceived value to the promisor. In an attempt to forestall questions concerning the legal validity of consideration, many contracts include a recital that the consideration exchanged is acknowledged by the parties to be valuable. See also consideration, promisee, and promisor.
