volt - measure of electricity. One volt is the force necessary to cause 1 ampere of current to flow through a wire with a resistance of 1 ohm. Most household current in the United States is 110 to 120 volts, with 220-volt circuits sometimes provided for heaters, clothes dryers, and stoves. See also watt.
